Mission Accomplished?

Last week (July 10th-17th) was a terrific week in many ways and walking home, I was very thankful for God’s blessing on our church. It was everything we are aiming to be and do.
Archbishop Peter Jensen spoke clearly and lovingly, both in manner and content. So did Dr Greg Clarke on Thursday night. What great men God has raised up to equip God’s people. It makes me proud to be Anglican with someone like Peter Jensen at the front.
New people came along to church. Some for the first time. Others for the second or third time.
Our church was friendly and welcoming. I didn’t ever see someone left without a person to talk to.
There were some serious conversations afterwards about the talks. Conversations about forgiveness and sin, life and hope. We might never know, but perhaps some became Christian.
The music was first rate. Great songs. Smiling song leaders. Servant hearted musicians. God-centred prayers and wasn’t Simon terrific? Yes he does have a special way with kids and explaining the gospel. The dinner on Sunday night, and the morning teas were spectacular. I’m running out of superlatives!
We ought to give great thanks to God. He has answered our prayers.
Of course the mission is not accomplished. There is still so much to do. While we take heart from last week, we do not grow complacent. We take a breath. Take a rest. We reflect and thank God. And we push on, straining to reach the goal knowing that heaven is our ultimate resting place. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us” (Heb 12).
Please join me in thanking God for this past week, and looking forward to our heavenly goal in Christ Jesus.
Yours thankfully, Andrew.
