Two Year Anniversary This Week

Bishop Rob Forsyth wrote to me this week to let me know how thankful to God he is for the ministry at St Mark’s. He wrote “I still remember that evening that Deryck and I sped through the night from the St Mark’s people up to the AABC meeting to see if we could put in place ‘the deal’. The present happiness has been a great tribute to the maturity of the St Mark’s and AABC people…. I know that there are many years ahead of even more effective ministry in this place and look forward to working with you in it”.
Today we celebrate our 2 year anniversary. To me it seems longer than 2 years! So much has happened and I keep forgetting that we were ever 2 churches. I don’t feel like there are 2 groups. In fact there are lots of groups! But they are not defined on whether they were ‘AABC’ or ‘old St Mark’s’. There are seniors groups, young adult groups, high school groups, primary school groups, toddler groups, women’s groups, men’s groups. Parish Council is never divided into these old church groups either. This is wonderful.
Unity is a very important part of our life together. God is united in fact– three persons, one God. The Bible says- Titus 3:10 “As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him”.
But also, the Bible says that our unity is only Christian unity when it is ‘in the gospel’. And today we look back to this gospel in 1 Corinthians 15. The gospel which was ’preached’, ’by which we stand’, and by which we are being saved’.
God bless, Andrew.
