A ROMANTIC DINNER, AND GREAT TIPS FOR MARRIAGE
The Marriage Course, a unique and practical seven week course will start on Wednesday 11th August at 6.45 pm at St Mark’s Anglican Church. The course is open to all married and cohabiting couples and covers many of the most challenging areas of marriage – money, communication, forgiveness, in-laws and sex. The Marriage Course is an excellent tool for couples in a time when Australia’s divorce rate is around 40%, and 37% of cohabiting couples split up before their child’s fifth birthday. The course provides practical tools and advice to help any couple improve and strengthen their relationship.
The course was started in 1996 by Nicky and Sila Lee at Holy Trinity Brompton in London. The total number of courses running worldwide is now over 3000 – in addition to those run across the UK, 68 other countries also run courses.
John Smith, a leader of the Brentwood Marriage Course said, ‘Building and maintaining a relationship over a number of years takes effort. The Marriage Course is great at providing practical tools that couples can use on a daily basis to help keep their relationship healthy.’
Each week of the course starts with a chance for the couple to have a romantic candlelit dinner together in a relaxing atmosphere. Then, there is a short talk on a specific subject, interspersed with film clips of couples sharing their own experiences and street interviews with people from around the world. The sessions feature regular breaks for the couple to chat about the topics. They sit at their own table and talk only to each other – there is never any group work. The topics covered include:
· Building Strong Foundations
· The Art of Communication
· Resolving Conflicts
· The Power of Forgiveness
· Good Sex
· The Impact of Family – Past and Present
· Love in Action
All couples are welcome, whether they’ve been together for one year or sixty-one years, whether they are married or living together, and whether they consider themselves to have a strong relationship or are struggling. Although the course is based on Christian principles, its practical tools are applicable to all couples whether they are churchgoers or not.
Simone and Rachid did the course. Simone said: ‘We’d been married for six years, and I thought we had a pretty good marriage. But it was great to take some time out each week to focus on our relationship away from all the distractions of family life. The Marriage Course helped us to talk through things that could have become problems in the future. We learnt that it’s no good just to sweep issues under the carpet – they need to be addressed so that there’s no room for resentment to build between us.’
Anyone interested in attending the course, which costs $150 per couple, including all meals, should contact Andrew Moore.

Good Friday 9am
Easter Sunday 8:45am, 10am and 5pm

We are a bit short of hope today.
A short time ago our leaders had the hopes of nations on their shoulders. Not so much now. Others have let us down even worse.
In the midst of the pain, we need help and we need hope.We need hope to live.
Easter is when everlasting hope was born- it was born in a grave.
They put Jesus Christ in his grave. They sealed the grave.
They set soldiers to watch the grave.
But it was no use. The Lord broke the power of death and came out of the grave to show us that it can be done.
What is the end? What’s the worst thing?
To die. To die without having made peace with God. To die and to pass into eternity with no one to be a friend.
Easter Day changed all that.
There is someone who died and passed through death for you.
When it comes to your present and your future, even to death , Jesus will stand for you, stand with you.
The offer is there for all of us. Will you check out this story for yourself? Please be our guest this Easter.

Facts about Cancer in Australia…
• 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will develop cancer before the age of 85.
• An estimated 111,000 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in Australia in 2009.*
• Cancer is the leading cause of death in Australia – more than 42,000 people are expected to
die from cancer this year.
• The survival rate for many common cancers has increased by more than 30 per cent in the
past two decades.
• Cancer costs $2.7 billion in direct health system costs (5.7% of total healthcare expenditure)
*About 434,000 cases of non‐melanoma skin cancer (the most frequently occurring cancer in Australia, but the least life‐threatening) are also diagnosed each year.
Only 2 Sundays to go until the Moore College Mission. College mission was a highlight for me at college. For 8 days, you join up with a church and get involved in outreach to their local community. The college closes for that week, and all the students and lecturers join together into different teams. No lectures, no assignments, no study– it was excellent! In my time at college I went to Nowra, Narrabeen, Gladesville, and Unichurch@UNSW.
The aim of the week is to God-willing, bring many people into his family through the good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection.
From the college point of view, it helps remind the college of why they exist. They are not interested in producing academics full of head knowledge– they are a ministry training centre, intent on producing servants of the Word of God. Mission galvanises this reality in the minds of the students.
From the church’s point of view, there is also great benefit. Having a highly motivated, and very capable group of young people is like a shot in the arm. There is a buzz around church; people band together on different outreach projects and report and pray for people they have shared the gospel with. You will be encouraged by the students and vice versa. And all this occurs as the students help raise the profile of our church in the community in a very positive way.
With some food for thought between courses.

Reverend Andrew Moore will address the topic of God and
suffering.
A collection will also be taken for those who would like to
make a donation to help victims of the bushfires.
